• A BULGARIAN company has made a device for tracing earthquake victims. It is a helmet with a video camera, a two-way radio and a laser beam, operable in thick smoke, dust or darkness. The combination of observation and audio contact can be used in fires, underground rescue operations, under ruins, and in mines and other situations where access is hampered. Engineer Krassimir Vurbanov, owner of Kvel company in Pleven, demonstrated the equipment on Tuesday.
So far, Polish, Turkish and Slovenian companies have shown interest in the device, but the inventors prefer to have it made in Bulgaria. The equipment costs between $800 and $1,000.
