PUBLIC TRANSPORT WAGES IN BULGARIA'S CAPITAL UP, STRIKE THREAT REMAINS
15:32 Mon 14 May 2007

The Sofia municipal council approved higher salaries for public transport employees.

All members of the council gave their approval for a 200 leva increase starting June 1. The increase resulted from union demands and the decision of public transportation employees to strike.

Union representatives said that despite the increase, a strike is scheduled for May 15, in case documentation concerning the salary increase is not presented in due time.

Wage increase was approved after three votes. During the initial two votes, the proposal failed getting the needed 31 votes to pass.
