The Cabinet is likely to consider the provision of additional flood recovery funds for the regions affected most by the latest downpours, Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) member Atanas Merdjanov said.
Municipal administrators did everything possible to minimise the damages but the lack of funds is a hindrance, Merdjanov said.
At the same time river levels started to increase once again because of the mountain snowmelt, Focus news agency reported. Due to the higher temperatures snow will start melting soon even at higher altitudes.
Representatives of the Yambol municipality requested a meeting with Disaster Management Minister Emel Etem to discuss further disaster prevention measures.
Inspectors from the Smolyan region will start examining river and dam facilities and their ability to accommodate the higher river levels in the spring. One of the measures that needs to be undertaken to prevent further floods is the cleaning of the riverbeds.
