The Supreme Cassation Prosecution and the Supreme Administrative Prosecution presented a report on the judicial system in Bulgaria, revealing that some magistrates have kept trials pending for years.
The report stated the delays resulted mainly from the frequent organisational and structural changes over the past five years. Focus news agency quoted Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev as saying that once the inspection was over the Prosecution would announce sanctions for the registered violations.
Velchev said that the report should be presented in the light of what had already been achieved. He added that prosecution in Bulgaria was working efficiently and the number of breaches was insufficient. The report demonstrated that the judicial system was progressing towards transparency and was intolerable to magistrate offences, Velchev said.
As part of the measures to reform the judicial system, Velchev proposed the introduction of software monitoring trial progress.
