Prosecution in Bulgaria will investigate a publication in a daily newspaper of the results of a check of the mayor-nominees by the committee on declassification of the archives of the communist-era secret services.
The publication was made before the committee announced the results officially, Focus news agency reported.
Evtim Kostadinov, head of the committee, said that the public announcement of such results before official decision of the committee was illegal.
The violator can be sentenced to three to five years of imprisonment and a fine of more than 15 000 leva.
The Prosecution was to find how the newspaper got the information. Possible sources were either the committee or the Interior Ministry, Focus said.
Kostadinov said that he hoped the source of information would be found soon.
“I’ve talked to our employees and am convinced and want to believe that none of the members of the committee" leaked that information.
