PRISON STAY OF BULGARIA’S NURSES IN LIBYA RESEMBLES LIFETIME SENTENCE- REPORT
11:34 Fri 08 Jun 2007

The prison stay of the five Bulgarian nurses sentenced to death for intentional HIV infection in Libya resembles much an unofficial lifetime sentence, Russian newizv.ru reported.

The report said that before his visit to Bulgaria US president George W. Bush promised to aid the resolution of the case.UK prime minister Tony Blair also promised to help the nurses. During a visit to Libya he met the infected children's families.

According to the report, the future opportunities before the UK-Libyan economic co-operation made Blair refrain from making sharp statements concerning the case.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy said that fewer discussions on the problem could mean higher chances for success, the report said.

The paper also referred to Russian president Vladimir Putin who promised a ''non-public co-operation'' in the case.
