Politics
- It was almost sure that the Interior Minister Roumen Petkov would be dismissed, Dnevnik daily said. All other employees of the ministry discredited in the ongoing corruption row, which has been going on for more than a week, would also be dismissed, the newspaper quoted its sources as saying.
- The name of another alcohol producer, Select Distillery, was involved in the corruption controversy in the Interior Ministry, Dnevnik said. The other producer was Vinprom Peshtera.
Social
- Volen Siderov, leader of the ultra-nationalist Ataka party, proudly said that he had scared Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Erdogan and his Bulgarian counterpart Sergei Stanishev skipped the scheduled meeting with the press on March 27, which made Siderov think that they were scared of his questions, Sega daily said.
- The National Statistics Institute (NSI) forecast demographic growth in Bulgaria in the next 10 or 15 years, Sega said. Although NSI registered a decreasing number of marriages and increasing number of divorces, the number of births was growing.
- Mobile phone portability would be available in April 2008, according to Novinar daily. Customers would be able to change their mobile phone operator and keep their number, paying a fee of five leva.
Economy
- Turkish glass manufacturer Sisecam would invest another $415 million in the town of Turgovishte, Dnevnik said. The company would build four more plants in the town. The total amount of the investment of Sisecam in the town would reach $800 million.
- Military repairs group Terem would sell majority stakes in eight companies aiming to select strategic investors, Dnevnik said. Terem will sell either 66 per cent or 74 per cent of the equity in its subsidiaries.
