- Dnevnik daily quoted judges as saying that organised crime within the Interior Ministry was growing. An increasing number of employees of the ministry were breaking the law and taking part in organised criminal groups. The lack of effective sentences or results from the fight against corruption had helped create a negative image of the judicial authorities in society, the newspaper said.
- National Security Agency had revealed suspicious meetings between Interior Minister Roumen Petkov and people being investigated by the police, Sega daily said. The agency sent an official letter to the parliamentary internal order committee to inform the committee of its findings.
Social
- The Prosecution had proof that some state railways employees had not reacted adequately to the fire on the Sofia-Kardam train on February 29, which claimed the lives of nine people, Sega said.
- A boom in the number of divorces in Bulgaria was expected after the approval of the new family code, the Society and Values association said, as quoted by Monitor daily. The family code would even threaten the institution of marriage, the association said.
Economy
- Bulgaria was ready to construct the Trakiya Highway on its own, if the concessionaire failed to funding for the construction, Troud daily said. Regional Affairs and Public Works Minister Assen Gagaouzov said that in such case the Cabinet would ask Parliament to vote on changes to the budget 2008 law.
