Politics

- Bulgaria would "dare" to recognise Kosovo, Sega daily said. Bulgaria will recognise the new country right after the severe confrontations between United Nation forces and Serbs in Mitrovica. Bulgaria, Croatia and Hungary were due to announce a common declaration on their support for Kosovo on March 19.

- The Movement for Rights and Freedoms is ready to pull Deputy Foreign Minister Feim Chaoushev from the Cabinet because of the controversy on his double identification papers, Standard daily said.

Social

- High-level police official was arrested for passing on classified information to a shady company, who was also a sponsor of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Sega said. Ivan Ivanov, deputy head of the Chief Directorate for Combating Organised Crime, was arrested in charges of abusing his power and disclosing classified information.

Economy

- The European Commission had frozen funding for Bulgaria because of organised crime, according to Dnevnik. There was a whole system for defrauding European Union funds in Bulgaria, protected by high-level officials.

- Bulgaria could miss out on ISPA pre-accession aid funding, Monitor daily quoted deputy chair of Bulgarian Industrial Association Kamen Kolev. Should funding be stopped, it would cause delays in the preparation, negotiations and the launch of tenders for projects funded under the programme.
