Politics

- BDZ chief leaves, the transport minister stays, Dnevnik daily says. State railway carrier BDZ chief executive Oleg Petkov and five top managers were fired after the Sofia-Kardam train fire, in which nine passengers died. Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev, however, rejected the resignation of transport minister Petar Moutafchiev.

Social

- "Collectors are calm, police never sleeps", Sega daily claims after police arrested the thief of two paintings, stolen from the National Palace of Culture on March 9.

Economy

- The families of Bulgarian members of Parliament (MPs) are utilising SAPARD money “at top speed”, according to Sega daily. Three members of Parliament (MP) and one deputy minister acknowledged that their relatives received funds under SAPARD, as quoted by the paper, but saw nothing wrong with it.

- Chimimport joined the concession of the Black Sea airports, Dnevnik says. The Chimimport holding company purchased the shares of the Bulgarian partner of Fraport, Balkan Star, and is expanding to yet another key economic sector.
