- European Commission expects clarification on the conflict of interests in the National Road Infrastructure Fund (NRIF), detailed plan for fight against malfeasances in the fund and punishments to restore funding under ISPA pre-accession programme, Dnenvik daily quoted Carsten Rasmussen from the EC's Regional Policy Directorate General as saying.
- Government granted an addition 307 million leva to the Regional Development and Public Works Ministry and the NRIF, the two institutions most guilty for the EU funds freezing, Sega daily said. The money was provided to the institutions to pay for the projects, which were supposed to be funded with EU money.
- National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP) again opposed its coalition partners Bulgarian Socialist Party and National Movement for Rights and Freedoms during the discussion of the sixth no-confidence motion against the Cabinet on July 29, Monitor daily said. NMSP member of Parliament (MP) Mincho Spasov said, “if measures are not taken the coalition would be lasting, but not everlasting.”
Social
- Sofia City Prosecution launched an investigation against former defence minister Vesselin Bliznakov with regards to deals made with defence ministry real estate, Dnevnik said. If the crimes are proven, Bliznakov, who is currently MP of NMSP, will no longer be immune to prosecution.
- After five days of peaceful protest, stock-breeders from the region of Kurdjali, Momchilgrad, Harmanli and Haskovo, in south-eastern Bulgaria, stormed the regional agriculture directorate office, Sega said. The farmers are protesting against unpaid subsidies for pastures and milk produced.
Economy
- Central European Media Enterprises (CME) purchased 80 per cent of the Bulgarian broadcasters TV2 and Ring TV, Dnevnik said. The deal was supposed to be completed in two weeks.
