Politics
- Regional Development and Public Works Minister Assen Gagaouzov said that he would pay close attention to the executive agency in charge of European Union funds utilisation under the Phare pre-accession programme, Dnevnik daily said. Gagaouzov promised to resolve the problems of the agency by the end of August.
- Bulgaria is among the countries where most malfeasance investigations were held, European Anti-Fraud Office report read, as quoted by Dnevnik. Some 60 per cent of all the investigations of OLAF in 2007 were related to five countries: Bulgaria, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Romania.
Social
- Opposition municipal councilors demanded the concession contract with Sofia cleaning company Novera to be annulled, Dnevnik said. The city refuse remained uncollected after Novera’s employees resigned on a mass scale.
- Media should not write negative materials on tourism in Bulgaria, because it would harm the country’s image, tourist branch representatives said as quoted by Dnevnik.
Economy
- Concessions on mining would be granted at tenders, according to amendments in the law on ores and minerals, Dnevnik said. The amendments had already been presented to the Cabinet.
- The Cabined changed the status of two attractive plots near Sofia’s central railway station, thus launching the construction of two skyscrapers, Sega daily said.
