Politics
- The Cabinet has suggested a complete ban on state-owned property exchanges, Sega daily said. The issue constantly causes controversies because the trades are unprofitable for the state.
- The Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) leader Plamen Yuroukov should resign as soon as possible to allow a real unification of the rightist parties, Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria and UDF representatives said, as quoted by Monitor daily. Yuroukov was a hindrance before the consolidation of the two parties.
Social
- Agriculture and Food Minister Valeri Tsvetanov has suggested that the Cabinet allocate 60 million leva for the protesting dairy producer, Sega said. Tsvetanov was aware that such measure would provoke another severe fine from the European Commission.
Economy
- After several attempts by smaller creditors to sue Kremikovtzi steel mill, on August 6, Sofia City Court declared the mill was insolvent and launched a bankruptcy procedure, Dnevnik daily said. Temporary governmental observer, appointed by the court, Ana Milenkova would take up the mill’s management.
- Only three banks granted a total of 63.5 per cent of the consumers’ credits, Dnevnik said. Bulgarian National Bank’s ranking of the top 10 banks has not changed significantly over the past three months, the newspaper said.
