- The plan for the evacuation of Bulgarian citizens in Georgia is ready, Monitor daily said. Deputy Foreign Minister Milen Keremedchiev said that the state would assist anyone who wants to leave Georgia.
- The boycott of the Cabinet, announced by the opposition parties, would be launched on the day of the national unification on September 6 with a sign-in list, Sega daily said. The leaders of the opposition Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, Union of Democratic forces and Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria took the decision for the petition on August 12.
Social
- Nearly 5000 teachers would be discharged after 350 schools closed between June to August 2008, Sega quoted trade union leader Yanka Takeva as saying. The reasons were demographic, she said.
- Bulgarian national volleyball team captain Plamen Konstantinov had not used drugs and there was no point returning to Bulgaria to prove his innocence, national commission for anti-doping control head Kamen Plochev told Monitor.
Economy
- Foreign investments in Bulgarian real estate crashed down, Sega said. In the first half of 2008, investments were only 600 million euro, which, compared to 2007, was a 40 per cent decrease.
- Bulgarian businesses could benefit from the slow down of world’s economy, Dnevnik said. Bulgaria could export more goods, while the decrease in the petrol price would hold inflation in the country.
