Politics

- The executive body of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) did not discuss the resignation of Interior Minister Roumen Petkov during its meeting on April 1, Dnevnik daily said. The party, however, assigned the minister with the preparation of a report on the Interior Ministry work over the past 18 years.

- More people would be dismissed from the executive agencies under the European Union pre-accession Phare programme, Dnevnik said. The European Commission froze the funding because of alleged bad control on funding.

Social

- More than 7000 Bulgarians applied for jobs using the EU's Eures job service since the start of 2008, Monitor daily said. Nearly 300 Bulgarians had found job in the EU using the service in 2008.

Economy

Kremikovtzi steel mill’s fate might be decided soon, as the bondholders officially demanded current owner Pramod Mittal pay immediately the principal and the interest on the issue, Dnevnik said. None of the bondholders believed that Mittal would be able to provide the money needed.
