President Georgi Purvanov established a Council on Information Technology (CIT) on Tuesday.
The body is chaired by Veni Markovski, CEO of bol.bg and chairman of Internet Society Bulgaria. Among the12 members of the council are Vinton G. Cerf, senior vice president of Internet Architecture and Technology for WorldCom, IMF resident representative for Bulgaria Piritta Sorsa and former Internet Society president Donald M. Heath.
As a consultative body with the president, the CIT will be in charge of elaborating expert positions, expressing opinions and providing information on the status and prospects of the internet industry. The council members will work in their private capacity and on a public basis. They will promote the application of internet services in the country, encourage the use of the internet by Government institutions and educational establishments and provide practical and scientific information on IT innovations.
