Chairman of the health commission to the National Assembly Borislav Kitov said the hospital debts will rise to 150 million leva by the end of the year.
Kitov met earlier today members of the board of the Bulgarian Medical Association, Darik radio reported. The health insurance should not be increased before reforms in the healthcare systems are carried through. Otherwise the risk of fund drainage is too big.
The health insurance increase is inevitable. Even if it reaches the proposed eight per cent of the salary, the sum may still remain insufficient, chairman of the Bulgarian Medical Association Andrei Kehayov said. The insurance should be increased only after thorough discussion with all institutions involved.
This increase was first proposed by the National Movement Simeon II (NMSII) at the beginning of April as a measure to improve the financial condition of hospitals.
Other prescribed measures include selling or renting nonoperational actives. At present, hospital debts have been covered by cutting down the salaries of the staff.
