On November 21, the Danish parliament is expected to ratify Bulgaria and Romania's EU accession treaty.
The late occurrence of the procedure was traditional for the parliament, speaker Christian Mejdahl said during a meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart Georgi Pirinski.
In the spring Denmark had some doubts concerning Bulgaria's EU entry readiness, Mejdahl said. The September European Commission monitoring report on the country's reform progress helped Danish officials take a decision, said he.
The positive report was going to facilitate the ratification procedure, Mejdahl said as quoted by Focus news agency.
Europe was now almost united, Mejdahl said. It was going to achieve the stability and security sought for so long, said he.
Once Bulgaria became EU member state, it was going to be one of the small countries within the union, just like Denmark, Mejdahl said. This could aid further the co-operation between the two countries, said he.
