POLICE IN BULGARIA PREVENTS RALLY OF OMO ILINDEN
15:57 Thu 13 Sep 2007

Police in Bulgaria’s South-Western town of Blagoevgrad prevented an unauthorized rally of activists of United Macedonian Organisation Ilinden (OMO Ilinden).

The rally was scheduled for 5pm on September 12 2007, Blagoevgrad police said as quoted by Focus news agency.

Police seized posters and demonstrators were taken to the police station where police took a formal statement.

On February 20 2007, Bulgaria’s Supreme Court of Cassation confirmed the decision of Sofia City Court to deny OMO Ilinden the right to register as a party because it did not meet registration criteria.

According to the party, the court decision was political.
