A network for the trafficking of ancient finds from Bulgaria to the US was cracked down.

Police detained three men travelling from Sofia to Vienna. The Bulgarians tried to take out of the country 14 400 ancient coins, jewelry and statuettes.

The total weight of the artifacts found reached 67kg. One of the coins could get a price of up to 1500 in an international auction.

Most of the valuables were found during excavation works in the Pleven and Rousse regions.

An intermediary had to contact the Bulgarians in Western Europe and from there to take the artifacts to the US.

Police are currently doing house searches related to the activities of the criminal group. In several houses officers found ancient valuables, including coins.

All valuables found will undergo analysis at the National Museum of History.
