Over the past two days Plovdiv airport dealt with a passenger traffic usually accommodated over a two-month period.
More than 10 000 passengers used the airport, Focus news agency reported, due to the poor weather conditions affecting the work of Sofia Airport.
On the morning of December 18 the situation went back to normal as Sofia Airport started working on schedule.
Due to the heavy fog in Sofia nearly 90 passenger airplanes were re-directed from Sofia to Plovdiv.
Problems resulted from the inability of the airport to manage such intense passenger traffic. Document inspection was slow and passengers had to wait for hours before they passed through border control, Focus reported.
Since the Plovdiv Airport had problems dealing with the traffic, part of the flights over the past days were also redirected to the Varna and Bourgas airports.
