The father of Manuela Gorsova, the teenager who was severely injured in a car crash, caused by two-time figure skating world champion Maxim Staviski, will appeal the athlete's sentence before the court.
In January 2008, Staviksi was sentenced to two years and six months suspended sentence, with a five-year probation period, for causing the death of a man and seriously injuring a second person in a road accident on August 5 2007, while driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was also sentenced to pay close to 180 000 leva of compensations to the families of the victims and court expenses, after pleading guilty to all charges.
Gorsova’s attorney Hristo Hristov said that the plaintiffs would appeal both the suspended sentence and the damages awarded by the court.
Gorsova’s family initially demanded damages of two million leva, but the court cut down the amount. Hristov did not specify whether the family would demand the same sum again, mediapool.bg said.
Earlier this month, the prosecution also said that it would appeal Staviski’s verdict, demanding an effective sentence.
