09:19 Wed 20 Jun 2007

Medics from Pirogov emergency institute once again protested on the morning of June 20.

Patients also joined the institute’s staff in the demonstration.

On June 21, medics will hold a rally in Sofia. They demand higher wages and better working conditions.

Over the past days, employees of various sectors started demonstrating with similar demands. On June 20, Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev will meet labour union leaders to discuss the situation.

Union representatives and officials will talk about negotiations and reaching new agreement about wages in the public sector.

Labour and Social Policy Minister Emilia Maslarova and Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski will also take part in the talks.

Previously Oresharski said that no unplanned wage increases will be implemented this year. In case all demands are met, the Finance Ministry will have to find significant amount of extra funding, which could lead to economic destabilisation.
