PIROGOV MEDICS IN BULGARIA THREATEN TO STOP PERFORMING SURGERIES
12:50 Wed 13 Jun 2007

Medics from Pirogov emergency institute in Sofia said that they will refuse to carry out planned surgeries in case a strike approval is denied.

Pirogov management refused to sign the documents, enabling medics work the minimal possible hours as a sign of protest.

Demonstrations are taking place on a daily basis for an hour in the morning. Medics demand higher wages and better equipment. Staff threatened to launch a strike, in case Health Ministry refuses to negotiate the demands.

The strike committee already determined the work activities that need to be carried out once the strike is launched so that all patients in need of emergency aid receive it.

Labour unions already gave their support to the protesting Pirogov medics. Pirogov employees expect their demonstrations to grow into national medical protest.
