PEOPLE IN BULGARIA WORK FIVE MONTHS TO BE ABLE TO PAY TAXES
11:48 Thu 21 Jun 2007

Economists calculated that people in Bulgaria work five months to be able to pay their taxes.

Industry Watch, Open Society Institute and Institute for Market Economy presented data on social securities and taxation in Bulgaria.

According to representatives of the three institutions, social securities in Bulgaria should be decreased.

European Commission reports showed that six per cent lower monthly installments led to a two per cent decrease in unemployment. High social security payments are the second most prominent cause of gray economic activity.

Economists said that in the long-term, lower social securities will provide more funds for public services.

According to state budget regulations, the Cabinet should implement lower social security payments, in case there is sufficient financial resource for the aim.

Budget surplus for the first third of the year is three times higher than preliminary estimates. Economists said that this was sufficient reason for decreasing social securities.
