PEOPLE FROM BULGARIA’S TSAR KALOYAN ARE STILL IN SHOCK-GAGUZOV
10:57 Fri 24 Aug 2007

People from the flooded Bulgarian town of Tsar Kaloyan are still in shock, and do not know exactly what they need, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Assen Gagaouzov said.

The Cabinet has not decided yet what sum it would allocate for dealing with damages from the floods, Gagaouzov said as quoted by Bulgarian National Radio.

Intensive rains in the beginning of August 2007 caused flooding and electrical shortages, and destroyed many houses and agriculture lands in Tsar Kaloyan. Eight people drowned in the floods.

Gagauzov said that most important for now was to find accommodation for people who lost their homes in the floods.

Several families will be provided with accommodation in a local school building. A total of 11 vans to serve as lodgings already arrived in the town.

The state will provide the funds to aid the town. Gagauzov said that electricity, water and food supply are the priorities.

Each of the affected families will receive financial aid of 1000 leva provided by Labour and Social Policy Ministry.
