Dimitar Penev will coach Bulgaria’s football team through the remaining Euro 2008 qualifiers.
This will be his second time in charge of the team.
Hristo Stoichkov, the previous coach of Bulgaria’s national team, quit in April 2007 to lead Spain's Celta Vigo, according to Reuters.
Stanimir Stoilov of Levski Sofia was appointed coach in the interim, which included last month’s qualifiers against Belarus.
In his first stint in charge, Penev led Bulgaria to the semi-finals of the 1994 World Cup in the US and qualified the side for Euro 96 in England.
Some of Bulgaria’s key players, including captain Dimitar Berbatov, have already voiced their support for Penev.
Bulgaria is second in Group G for the Euro 2008, with 15 points from seven matches.
The team is currently two points behind their Romanian rivals.
August 22 2007 is the date of Penev’s first match in charge, when Bulgaria host Wales in an international friendly in Bulgaria’s coastal city of Bourgas.
