PARTIES IN BULGARIA’S RULING COALITION REFRAIN FROM DEMANDING RE-DISTRIBUTION OF POWER
10:43 Mon 21 May 2007

Parties in Bulgaria’s ruling coalition will refrain from demanding re-distribution of power within the Cabinet because of the members of European Parliament (MEP) election results.

The elections show that Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) will send to the EP five of its members. Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) will have three representatives and National Movement Simeon II (NMSII) will have one MEP.

MRF member Filiz Jiusmenova said as quoted by mediapool.bg that the ruling coalition scheme will remain the same.

No parallels should be drawn between the MEP elections and the previous parliamentary and presidential elections in the country, Hiusmenova said.

MRF turns out to be the third most powerful party in Bulgaria after the BSP and the centrist opposition from Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB).

NMSII member Nikolai Svinarov said that the results were not detrimental for NMSII. A month ago NMSII started from the beginning and the result was satisfactory, he said. A number of parties will not have even one MEP, he said.

Unexpected electoral results predictions came true, Svinarov said.
