Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) refused to remove former secret services agents from their members of European Parliament (MEP) electoral lists.
 
On April 25 2007, Bulgaria’s dossier opening committee revealed that six of the MEP nominees collaborated with the former communist secret services, mediapool.bg said. Two of BSP nominees and one of MRF’s candidates were among the agents.

BSP and MRF feature among the parties having highest electoral success chances.

BSP said that “there was nothing shameful” in collaborating with the former intelligence. Western countries shoot films about their agents, while in Bulgaria they are rebuked, the party said.
 
The dossiers showed that MRF deputy leader Younal Loutfi was also intelligence agent. The party’s official position is that the voting list will remain unchanged, mediapool.bg said.

Dossier opening laws do not oblige parties to withdraw the nominations of former agents. Still, if they want to, they may introduce changes in the voting lists until May 12 2007, mediapool.bg said.
