PARLIAMENT MEMBERS SUGGEST DISMISSAL OF BULGARIA'S HEALTH MINISTER
15:10 Thu 31 May 2007

Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) should consider the dismissal of Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski, National Movement Simeon II (NDSII) MP Antonia Purvanova said.

Gaidarski’s dismissal was suggested because of inability to tackle sector problems, Purvanova said as quoted by mediapool.bg.

The strategy for healthcare reforms should determine the development of the sector until 2012. The ruling BSP, NMSII and Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) keep on arguing about funding and the role of National Healthcare Insurance Fund.

Ttwo of the parties in the ruling coalition, NMSII and MRF, approved the strategy. BSP opposed it.

While parties fail coming to agreement on the strategy, Pirogov emergency institute medics started protesting and threaten  to strike. The medics insist on higher monthly wages and better equipment.

Pirogov protests were clear indication of the condition in the sector, Purvanova said. The emergency institute was at the edge of bankruptcy, she said.
