PARLIAMENT CONSIDERS STRICTER ANTI-SMOKING REGULATIONS IN BULGARIA
11:23 Thu 01 Feb 2007

Parliament will vote during its February 1 session new more radical measures to limit smoking in public places.

If approved, the new regulations would prohibit smoking at the work place, in bars, restaurants and clubs, Bulgarian National Radio reported.

Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski said that the majority of people approved such measures.

Polls showed that people were in favour of a complete ban on smoking in public places, Focus news agency reported.

Gaidarski said that the national anti-smoking programme would be the topic of public discussion.

Laws were good enough already, said Gaidarski. As a result the fines for smoking in prohibited public places would not be increased, said he.
