PANTECHNICON: Looks matter

Combining computing power with good design is the new formula for success.

Size and power. For the longest time these were the deciding factors in the computer technology race to perfection. The faster, the lighter, the smaller a machine, the better. But in recent years, the world of computer technology has been growing increasingly design-conscious. Apple has been arguably the leader in this trend, creating products with a line so distinct, that one need not see the Apple logo to recognise an Apple product. Hey, they taught us desktops could come in the colours of the rainbow and that laptops could be white or aluminum. Now, the phenomenon has caught on. Fujitsu Siemen’s latest PC is a case in point.

At 5 by 16.5 by 16.5 cm and with a weight of a mere 5 kg, the new  ESPRIMO Q5000 Mini PC offers full computing power and combines cool elegance with intelligent technology. It offers the full range of computer performance of a standard office PC and was developed with a particular eye to image-conscious companies for which elegant and stylish offices play an important role.

“Customer surveys and trend analyses showed us that companies have very different requirements when it comes to office PCs: on the one hand, they want powerful and easily expandable PCs for their open-plan offices, while for their smaller and more intimate offices they are looking for high-quality design and elegance,” says Peter Esser, executive vice president volume products and supply operations at Fujitsu Siemens.

For enterprises such as law firms, travel agencies and architects’ offices, as well as for companies with high-profile office premises such as the fashion industry, banks and insurance companies, the workplace not only has to be efficient, it must also look good. Like designerware, sleek computers are an identity statement in addition to being utilitarian goods. And for those willing to take things a bit further, having the individual company logo on the machine might be an attractive option.

Fujitsu Siemens assures consumers that appearances don't lie. Beneath the surface of  ESPRIMO Q5000 lies sophisticated technology, the company's statement says. Its Intel® Mobile Technology and its system design make it quiet and economical.

The new PC will be available as of November 1 2006 at prices starting at 699 EUR (no VAT).
