Ashraf Alhajouj, a Palestinian medic awarded Bulgarian citizenship in the final stages of his detention in Libya, is reportedly considering court action against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddaffi.

Ashraf Alhajouj was sentenced to death together with five Bulgarian nurses for intentional HIV infection of more than 400 children in Libya, Agence France Presse (AFP) said, as quoted by Bulgarian National Radio. Their death sentences were commuted to life imprisonment, but they were pardoned and freed on arrival in Bulgaria. They spent more than eight years in Libyan prisons.

Ashraf's parents and his four brothers managed to emigrate to the Netherlands with the help of the UN in 2004. The six medics were released from Libya on July 24 and on the same date were pardoned by President Georgi Purvanov.

Ashraf told Duch journalists that he was going to talk to his lawyer and discuss the possibility of court action against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddaffi.

His arguments are that he was kept as a hostage by Gaddaffi who had failed to respect justice.
