OVER TWO BILLION EURO INVESTED IN BULGARIA'S TRANSPORT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Bulgarian government will invest over two billion euro in a balanced transport development programme, Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev said.

The government will utilise funds for the integration of the transport system and the balanced development of the transport network in Bulgaria, Focus news agency reported.

Large amount of the funds will be used for modernisation of the railway infrastructure.

The modernisation will include the railway route Vidin-Sofia, Sofia-Pernik-Rudozem, part of the railway track Sofia-Plovdiv and reconstruction of the railway track to Svilengrad.

Road infrastructure development involves six projects among which the construction of Struma highway along the trans-European corridor IV.

Another project envisions the construction of Maritsa highway and the renovation of the road section between Kurdzhali and Podkova. The project intends the construction of inter-modular terminal and subway extension in Sofia.
