Bulgarian Socialist party (BSP) members in Sofia voted confidence motion to their leader, former Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov.
Ovcharov asked for the confidence motion on June 11 2007, during the summit of the BSP organisation in Sofia, mediapool.bg said.
“If I still have your support, we will start a fight for Sofia in the municipal elections,” Ovcharov told party members. If not, we will have internal elections, while the others are electing mayors, Ovcharov said.
BSP party members in Sofia supported Ovcharov unanimously, mediapool.bg said.
Ovcharov resigned from his position on June 2 2007, after a major corruption controversy was uncovered.
National Investigation Service head Angel Alexandrov accused Ovcharov of threatening his in connection to an investigation. Prosecution found no evidence to launch trial against Ovcharov.
