OPPOSITION PARTIES IN BULGARIA PRESENT REASONS FOR NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION
13:56 Wed 28 Feb 2007

Bulgarian healthcare experiences deep crisis and nearly 92 per cent of the people are dissatisfied with its state, Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) representative Dimitar Kambourov said.

DSB is one of the right-wing parties that tabled a no-confidence motion, targeting Bulgaria’s Cabinet. During a plenary session on February 28, MPs discussed the reasons for the motion.

Cabinet never made effort to continue effectively healthcare reforms, Kambourov said. Funds allocated to healthcare now are twice as much as in 2001 but were spent inefficiently and created corruption possibilities, he said.

The crisis started during the term of the previous Cabinet, said Kambourov. Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski, however, failed drafting strategy for development until 2013, he said.

Bulgaria lacks strategy for co-operation between emergency aid teams and hospitals, it was also missing mechanisms for healthcare service price calculation, Kambourov said as quoted by Bulgarian National Radio.

Gaidarski said that nearly 86 per cent of the people who received medical aid in 2006 were satisfied with it.

Opposition parties were trying to find splits within the ruling coalition that they could make use of, Gaidarski said.
