OPPOSITION PARTIES IN BULGARIA LEAVE PLENARY HALL
14:55 Thu 08 Feb 2007

All representatives of opposition parties in the National Assembly left the plenary hall to express protest concerning regulations for the election of members of European Parliament (MEPs).

United Democratic Forces (UtDF) said that the parties in the ruling tripartite coalition were pressuring everyone to adopt their views on the MEP elections without taking into consideration the suggestions of the opposition.

Ivan Kostov, leader of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), said that National Movement Simeon II (NMSII), one of the parties in the ruling coalition, should also leave the hall.

Otherwise NMSII was just going to witness the deal between the other two parties in the coalition, Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), said Kostov.

According to the right wing and ultra-nationalist movement Ataka MRF and BSP have reached an agreement that will enable them win the majority of MEP positions.
