The opposition party Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) said that the National Assembly should pass a declaration with anti-corruption measures in view of the corruption signals against former prime minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg.
On June 17 Italian prosecution presented evidence that Saxe-Coburg was going to give his cousin Prince Victor Emmanuel and businessman Pierpaolo Cerani the chance to participate in Bulgarian hospital construction in exchange for political financing.
Bulgarian National Radio quoted DSB leader Ivan Kostov as saying that Bulgaria should demonstrate its capability to fight high-level corruption and organised crime by using all political means.
This case was the first real challenge for Bulgarian institutions and the first 'proven large-scale corruption scheme in Bulgaria', Kostov added.
DSB accused former prosecutor-general Nikola Filchev of deliberately concealing the corruption evidence presented by the party at the time of the controversial hospital deal.
Kostov said that president Georgi Purvanov should recall Filchev, who was now ambassador to Kazakhstan, so that legal procedures against him could be started.
