Bulgarian opposition parties filed the fourth no-confidence motion against the Cabinet of Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev on February 14 2008.
Opposition leaders have said the main rationale for the motion was the corruption in the government. A total 79 members of Parliament (MPs) signed the motion, with one more unable to do so because of a trip abroad, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) said.
The motion needed 121 votes to pass, making it unlikely to succeed in bringing down the Government, but that has not stopped the five opposition parliament groups from filing it.
The point of the motion is not to unseat the Cabinet or cause snap polls, rather to inform society on the corruption in the government, according to the preamble of the motion.
Parliament had a week to debate the motion and a vote would be held within 24 hours of the end of the debates.
This is the fourth motion of no confidence against Stanishev and his Cabinet. The first three were tabled over the Government's inadequate response to natural disasters, and during healthcare workers' and teachers' strikes.
