ONLY A PER CENT OF ALL BULGARIANS BELIEVE PUBLIC PROCUREMENT INVOLVES NO CORRUPTION

According to Transparency International research, only one per cent of all Bulgarians believe that public procurement deals are carried out transparently and with no corruption practices involved.

Head of the parliamentary anti-corruption committee Boiko Velikov said that losses from corruption in the sphere total 500 million leva.

Velikov said that public procurement featured among the areas having highest corruption risk.

Three principles were violated through public procurement deals, Velikov said as quoted by BGNES news agency.

These principles involved transparency and publicity, competition and equality for all tender participants.

According to Bulgarians polled, corruption was most widespread in construction and renovations public procurement deals. The second most affected sphere was services, people said.
