There are no more than five leaders of organised crime in Bulgaria, Ilia Iliev, chief secretary of the Interior Ministry, told bTV.
"We cannot say, that there are precisely five or six in the entire country, but as a result of our joint work with the prosecution there is movement and change among them and they are not as strong as the once were," netinfo.bg quoted Illiev as saying.
New working methods and new organisational structures were being used, he added. In the last two years 57 operations against drugs trafficking, human trafficking and terrorism have been controlled by us, Illiev said.
As a result the drug channels through the country has been narrowed, he said.
Police and prosecution could not constantly demand more people and more budget, Illiev said. The organisation of our work and technical means for it would have to be improved, in order to increase public trust in the police and prosecution, Illiev said.
