ONE MORE RIGHTIST PARTY LEADER IN BULGARIA LEAVES POLITICS
11:31 Tue 29 May 2007

“I give up politics because people expect something new and I am not able to give it to them,” Union of Free Democrats (UFD) leader Stefan Sofianski said.

Bulgarian politics needs new people, Sofianski said as quoted by Focus news agency.

Sofianski said that he is leaving politics to give chance to young and new people.

A number of rightist party leaders announced their resignations after the failure of their formations in Bulgaria’s first members of European Parliament (MEP) elections. Among them are Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) leader Petar Stoyanov and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) leader Ivan Kostov.

Sofianski said that he has achieved a lot during his 16 years in politics with two times being member of Parliament, mayor of Sofia, Prime Minister and European Parliament observer.

Rightist formations should unite in order to become stable, Sofianski said.

Recently Sofianski said that the failure of rightist formations to unite led to the poor performance in the MEP elections.
