A number of oil spills were noticed in the Bulgarian part of the Danube River, probably originating from the mouth of Timok River.
The spills had low density and the distance between each two was big, representatives of the Vidin State Agency for Civil Protection office said.
Ecologists said that the spills were washing away and would fail affecting the region close to Vidin and the nearby villages.
Water is suitable for production and household needs, Focus news agency reported. Analysts are monitoring the movement of the spills.
The pollution was cross-border and oil spills started entering the Bulgarian part of the river on the morning of December 6. This happens for the third time in the past two months, Focus said.
Ecologists said that a local disaster management and prevention centre should be set up at Vidin to take care of such problems. More human resource was needed to act fast in similar cases, they said.
