A huge oil spot on the Danube River, resulting from the work of a Serbian hydro station, reached Bulgarian territory on October 2.
The spill was nearly 30 km long, 400 m wide and very thick, Darik Radio said.
Dimensions made the absorption of the spill impossible.
Ecologists said that such spills threatened the flora and the fauna of the river, especially the water birds. Only fish would be unharmed, they said.
Bulgaria’s environmental authorities ordered restrictions on the usage of water from the river.
A Disaster Management Ministry teams would use fences to prevent the pollution of channels of the Kozlodui nuclear power plant and the thermal power plant in Vidin, Darik said.
The spill would float in the Bulgarian part of Danube the next couple of days, Darik said.
Teams of Bulgaria’s State Agency for Civil Protection, National Border Police Service and Marine Administration would inspect the movement of the spill, Bulgarian National Radio reported.
