The previously issued death sentences of the five Bulgarian nurses charged with intentional HIV infection in Libya are to be confirmed, followed by new negotiations for their release, Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB) representative Dimitar Videlov said.
CEDB organised today in Plovdiv a rally in support of the Bulgarians, who expect the final verdicts in their trial on December 19, Darik Radio reported.
Videlov said that negotiations are to take place between Libya and various European and international institutions.
According to Libyan laws, a death sentence can be substituted by financial compensation. The families of the infected children already demanded funds from Bulgaria.
On December 19 Together Against the Death Penalty organisations and Lawyers Without Borders will organise in Paris a press conference to comment on the verdicts, Focus news agency reported.
The press conference will also feature live broadcast from Libya, once the verdicts are pronounced.
Bulgarian-French organisations in France also launched their own projects in support of the medics. A concert will take place in eastern France on December 20. Bulgaria-France organisation is responsible for the event.
