NRA FINDS DIFFERENCES IN TAX DECLARATIONS BETWEEN BULGARIAN COMPANIES AND THEIR EU PARNTERS
16:33 Tue 09 Oct 2007

Analysis of data from the VAT Information Exchange System (VIES) project of the European Union showed that there was a difference between the tax declarations of Bulgarian companies involved in second hand trade, and the declarations of their European contract partners.
This was announced at the third strategic session of management of Bulgaria's National Revenue Agency (NRA), which took place October 7 - 9 2007 in Borovets, Focus news agency quoted an NRA press statement as saying.

The differences were the results from European companies stating delivery inside the EU in their declarations, whereas Bulgarian dealers did not declare internal EU transportation to NRA.
Similar differences happened with Bulgarian companies which import materials and process them for export.

Total number of differences between declarations by Bulgarian companies and their European partners was 4 200.

Technical mistakes account for 68 per cent of the differences, undeclared internal European Union transport by Bulgarian companies for 21 per cent. Internal European Union transport, for which the deadline for VAT declarations of five days was not met, accounted for 11 per cent of the differences.

As a result, close to 3 000 examinations have been completed and some 300 revisions of companies, where the administration contained differences in the data from what their European contract partners had declared, were started.

NRA sent personal letters to all companies where mistakes where discovered under the VIES programme.

NRA warned that companies dealing in second hand cars and companies which import import materials and process them for export, with partners in the European Union, would be checked regularly because of aheightened risk of VAT abuse.
