A 28-year-old woman died and two people were injured in an accident in the camping site of the Exit festival in Novi Sad, Serbia, in the last day of the fest, July 13 2008.

A tree branch fell on tents in the camping site and killed the woman, Serbian broadcaster B92 quoted Beta news agency as saying. The victim was a Serbian citizen, B92 said.

The other two victims were a 22-year-old Macedonian woman and Macedonian man, aged 23, B92 said. The woman suffered a severe head trauma and was still in a critical condition, while the man had chest injuries, but his life was out of danger.

Online publication balkaninsight.com quoted Novi Sad mayor Igor Pavlicic as saying that an investigation would reveal who was responsible for the accident, since “the festival organisers demanded the city authorities to thoroughly check the site ahead of setting up the camp”. The people found responsible would be severely punished, he said.

B92 quoted media reports as saying that 41 people, 38 of which foreigners, were arrested during the fest for possession and sale of drugs.

Some 250 000 people and more than 600 bands gathered for this year’s edition of the festival, which is the biggest one in South-Eastern Europe. This year, bands like Manu Chao, Sex Pistols, Primal Scream and Ministry, among others, took part in the fest.
