NORMAN FOSTER’S BUILDINGS AT SOFIA NATIONAL GALLERY
19:28 Fri 30 Nov 2007 - Elitsa Savova

The National Gallery for Foreign Art will present the architecture of one of the leading architects of the United Kingdom, Norman Foster.

On December 12 2007, the gallery opens an exhibition of miniature models, drafts and videos of existing and future buildings, as well as projects still under construction.

Lord Foster would arrive personally in Sofia for the opening of the exhibition. He is architect of some of the most impressive contemporary architectural works, such as the Millennium Bridge in London, the restoration of the Reichstag in Berlin and the renewed Wembley stadium.

Representatives of Forster’s company Foster and Partners will also arrive.

On the same day, at 15.30, Spencer de Grey, Norman and Partners head of design, will lecture at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy.

The exhibition will be on until January 15 2007.

I am Bulgarian. Readers of this article should know that the site chosen for the proposed project is a protected area, preserved natural habitat - a broadleaved forest used by millions of migrating birds for feeding and moving along the coast. Any construction on such a site does not have the moral right to pretend to be 'carbon neutral' or 'eco'. In odrer to deal with climate change one of the most important things is to preserve natural ecosystems and increase their resilience. Construction in protected areas is unacceptable and I appeal to the British public to think twice before supporting any such projects. Thank you. www.bspb.org www.forthenature.org
