During a visit to Pernik on July 30, Bulgarian President Georgi Purvanov said there was no parliamentary crisis and he could not interfere before all constitutional steps for cabinet changes had been taken.
His statement came in reply to suggestions from the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (abbreviated to GERB in Bulgarian) to start consultancies to cut the mandate of current Parliament short and to form an interim cabinet.
“It is the second time in the past two weeks that I argue with GERB on constitutional matters,” Purvanov was quoted as saying by Bulgarian National Television. GERB should at last read the constitution, Purvanov said.
“The President cannot interfere when there is no parliamentary crisis […] This [GERB’s suggestion] is an appeal to violate the constitution,” Purvanov said.
