The teachers' united strike committee has released a statement on October 15, with only one demand, a salary increase of 20 per cent as of October 1 2007.
What happened to the other demands was not clear in today's statement, Za Grada reports.
The statement does say that on the 16th day of the strike, 97 per cent of teachers in Bulgaria takes part in the strike.
Less than 20 per cent increase as of October 1 was not acceptable for and would not be supported by teachers and other school staff, the statement said. The teachers and other staff expressed its concern for a normal course of the 2007-2008 study year, as well for the inconvenience and worries of teachers and students. It categorically put the blame for the long-drawn negotiations with the Bulgarian Parliament and personally with Education Minister Daniel Vulchev, Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski and Prime Minster Sergei Stanishev.
We turn to Bulgarian society, to the parent and our students for support, as we announce that those who work in the educational system will defend their demands till the end, the statement said.
